We went to town and sat in a park
There were kids playing tennis balls and couples smitten with each other
Their parents were still young, the kids
The group dressed in t-shirts and jeans and sneakers

We read some books and talked and talked
Then there was a guy in uniform sitting next to us
He was taking a smoke, eating a snack all while scrolling through his phone
I said he was probably having his dinner break
Near the park, there's a café where we had coffee and a rhubarb tart
I said I've almost run out of money so you paid for my dessert
I didn't know rhubarbs were sour if I knew I'd probably just had coffee
We stayed for a little longer under the umbrella until the waiter handed our bill
It was 8.30 pm on a Saturday and we still had tomorrow for ourselves
